You can use XMMS to play MP3s, though you might need to download and install xmms-mp3 as an add-on, as I don't think RH9 comes with MP3 support out of the box.
Red Hat 9 is really old, consider getting a newer distro!
I actually running 10 (shrike), but when I tried to register it, it autoloaded the version as rh 9...

Have you used any other free Linux distro's, do you have any recommendations? I'm not addicted to any one variety over the other- I'm re-entering the Linux community..
Yes RH9 is very old and was discontinued several years ago. If you like the Red Hat stuff, you can use Fedora Core. Otherwise, any other distro is good; they are all "free" essentially. Major other distros include Debian, Ubuntu, Mandriva, OpenSuse, Slackware, Gentoo, etc.

There was never a Redhat Linux 10. Shrike was Redhat 9.0.
