I'm having the same issue when attempting to FTP a file larger than 2 GB to a RedHat AS 2.1 machine and the FTP stops at exactly 2 Gig. I, too, am a novice to Linux and would like to know if this is something that I can correct 'on the fly' or do I have to reformat (newfs for all you Solaris folks) the file system. If it can be accomplished, specifically which parameters and/or processes need to be changed. Thanks!

Exactly, because the Linux kernel 2.4 is not limited to 2 GiB file-systems. I would have guessed it to be the FTP client, because IIRC, wu-ftpd (as included with AS 2.1) can receive large files.

Just a thought... you can create an Oracle tablespace with mutiple datafiles. You should try that before kernel compiles.

A 2.4 kernel need not be recompiled at all. Subject says this is about Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1AS, which has a 2.4.9 kernel.
