The question does not have to be directly related to Linux and any language is fair game.

Question X programming, gtk vs. tcl/tk

Hello everyone,

I would like to get into X programming, but I would like to start in a language thats not too complicated as I catch my bearings, so far I here that gtk and tcl/tk are some popular languages for X programming. After looking threw a gtk tutorial it looks as it's pretty much just functions in C, and I know that tcl/tk are script languages. I know some c/c++, but my question is what are the differences when using either one of the languages for X programming?
And, gtk programs obviously have to be compiled, but here you can also compile tcl/tk X scripts, so when your are compiling tcl/tk X scripts are they acting like gtk?
Please set me straight here as you can see I'm pretty confused.

Thanks

gtk programs do *NOT* have to be compiled necessarily, my acidrip program is gtk / perl and is not compiled.

gtk is not a language but a toolkit. there are a large number of programming lanaguages that can be used with gtk... c, c++ java, perl, python, ruby, php and... wait for it... tcl.

personally i'd say learn something modern and logical, so Gtk or Qt. Tk is old and generally quite obtuse to use.
