What /proc file(s) have process information

I would like to access a single file from my 'C' program, which will give me all the processes which are running in the system. I see the individual task subdirectories within /proc, but would like to know if there is a summary file somewhere which gives consolidated information about the running processes somewhere under the /proc subdir struction.

THanks, Pat//

All the numeric file-names in that directory correspond to process-IDs. But it's frequently easier to run the ls command programmatically and capture its output.
