Video Processing and Programming in Linux..Please Help me..any suggestion are welcome

Hey folks, or programming master...

Now, I''ve a big curiosity about programming in Linux. This is about video and image processing..This is the idea, I want to capture four video camera signals associated with a video mixer.

The output from the video mixer is sent to a video capture card installed on Linux distributions (ok, said I'm using Ubuntu Dekstop)....

Using software developed congenital or signals from four video cameras will periodically analyzed to determine the signal from the camera which will be the next candidate to be sent to the channel output....

Ok, let's say the current signal from a particular video camera was transmitted to the channel output from the video mixer. Means that there are three candidates who could be a signal output.

The condition, if the signal originating from an unstable camera (swaying and identified as a wobble that can not be tolerated), then the signal can not be used as a candidate. That left the two signals can djadikan candidates.

The analysis will be done regularly in four seconds. Well, is it possible within a relatively short time, the right candidate can be obtained? This is still a question mark depending on OS, processor speed and algorithm used. Additional there are a number of rules (rule) that must be defined so that the system will be imposing an intelligence...

So that is the main idea...and what I want to do...
I need some advice and suggestion to develop this program in Linux/Ubuntu or any other Distributions, so please help me about the reference, programming language (is that possible using bash-script to do my idea ?).., working environment (video chain, etc)

Cheers,
Andrew Raharjo

To the OP - there is not much Linux-specific in your task. For example,

Quote:
if the signal originating from an unstable camera (swaying and identified as a wobble that can not be tolerated), then the signal can not be used as a candidate
is a purely algorithmic problem.

The programming language - most likely C/C++ if we are talking about real time.

You need to dig into various image processing/recognition algorithms - I am not an expert in them.

Have you looked at the OpenCV library?

Yes, it is possible to develop the project in any modern OS environment, including Linux.

dugan has correctly suggested to have a look at openCV library.

Wow..Thanks to dugan..I really need that info cause I'm still new in here (programming in linux)
hmm, I still reading this e-books Gary Bradski, Adrian Kaehler, "Learning OpenCV: Computer Vision with the OpenCV Library", related with Open CV after dugan said to looked @ Open CV, nice idea, so anything else should I use besides Open CV lib in Python programming (as an example for language environment)....??
