Unix environment under windows

Is anyone aware if a 'free' unix type shell or environment is available for Windows? I am a newbie and trying to learn how to use Unix commands. Instead of a command window in Windows, I would like to use a shell type environment.

[ If anyone is interested in buying, there are some available here..

Thx,
Connie

If you don't like Cygwin/licensing/whatever else there's a few other places to go. Im running Zsh and Bash on W2K w/o probs, and w/o installing Cygwin. Tools at
http://www.edv.agrar.tu-muenchen.de/...UnxUtils.html, virtunix.itribe.net/ and www.nextgeneration.dk/gnu/index.shtml only depend on native Micro$uck runtimes (whatever your opinion on that is).

Microsoft windows has a feature you can add call the posix subsystem. well something like that.
I encountered it in windows 7 in the add or remove windows features and programs.

Can not give you any more than to mention about it. May be it is related to what you are attempting to do.
