Two text consoles on the same physical one.

How large would a program have to be to open two text consoles on the same physycal console? And what would the general outline be? Thanks.

What about "splitvt" package?
Is it what you wish to have?

Maybe I misunderstood you...

Even more, it's available from the official Slackware repo. ;-)

If not concerned about displaying the output at the same time, ie like splitvt above, you could also look at screen.

I heard about screen. I forgot: I immediately used locate and there it was /usr/bin/splitvt.

I'll use it thus: in one window I'll read advancedbashscripting.txt and, on the other, I'll do the examples. I feel more comfortable with the text mode dot matrix chars than with the terminals in the GUI. Thanks.

It does what splitvt and screen do. Only, it's newer.
