Timing code: GNU gprof versus time

Hi guys,

As part of my research work, I am timing the execution of a sequential code (1 core) using both the time command and GNU gprof.

However, I can't get any single number to match. My question is: shouldn't the reported times for the time command be somehow similar to the time reported by gprof, for the function main in the call graph?

Furthermore, which option would you guys prefer? The time command or gprof?

Thanks.
