Finding a package name, when you know a file name :

'dpkg -S /usr/bin/gprof'
.. The reply is : binutils

Google : .. binutils Ubuntu ..
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/binutils
[ hardy ] [ intrepid ] [ jaunty ] [ karmic ]
.. Choose an Ubuntu version ..
