scripting - proftp log & iptables

i was wondering if it's possible to add iptables rules based on unsuccessful logins to the ftp server.

i want to be able to have a script look at the logs, and when it sees a connection opened, then closed with no success, it adds the ip as an iptable rule.

thanks in advance
