Need good Programing Apps for beginer?

Does anyone know if Mandrake 9.1 has any good programming tools for a BIG TIME beginner at Programing?

Also I just installed Linux last week too so I have many many things to learn.

All I need to know is where or how to install programing tools, or if Mandrake has them installed already by default please explain where there at.

I want to practice on how to program stuff on Linux.

Thanks.

Most coding can be done in a text editor. You have to choose a language you want to learn before you can code it. Try picking a language such as perl and find a tutorial on google.

The primary advantage of using Mandrake (IMHO) is the urpmi tool. If you run
Code:
# urpmi python
in a console, it will tell you whether it's there or not.
As for Python, I thought Magnus Lie Hetland introduced the topic well.

I wouldn't begin with c as first programming language.
IMO java is the best way to getting in on programming, since it has an easy syntax but nevertheless you have all the important ideas of high level programmation (such as object oriented programming).
Once you feel secure in Java, every other language can be learned with few effort.

As for scripting languages, it think php is the easy way to begin.
