mysql works fine at the command prompt. However I downloaded a gui tool 'dreamcoder' and trying to use gui version for db. I am getting connection error although I configured ssl etc.

error still indicates:

Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

anyone can help please?

thanks

Did you check these (from the Dreamcoder FAQ file):
Quote:
Why can't I connect to my local MySQL database server ("Can not connect to MySQL server on localhost")?

This is the most common error in MySQL and there are many reasons for it, among which:
1. The MySQL database server was not installed correctly.
2. The database server is not initialized.
3. The database server is running on a different port (not 3306).
Hope this helps.

Also make sure that the gui tool has the right user name to access the database. Gui tools will usually have the permission on the user who activates them, not necessarily mysql, that maybe why it works at the console.

You probably need to add access to that particular database to the user you are running as.

Actually, I checked all those points. At the command line DB works fine. User name is correct. DB chosen is also correct. Server is running with no errors. ... If anything needed to post, please let me know, I can provide it directly from the server.

Thanks
