msvcpp or likeness via ssh
I'm gonna describe the specific situation I'm trying to accomplish, and would love any input on how to do it or a different (read: probably better) way to do it.
I'm running a small local MUD, mainly to get into learning to code. It runs on a Slackware 10.2 linux box on my local network. A while back I had a windows port of the MUD, and to code on it I used Microsoft Visual C++ for simplicity in locating compile errors, managing all the .c files in the project, syntax checking, etc... I have SSH up and running, and a windows SSH client (PuTTY). What I'm looking for is a way to run some graphical coding / compiling tool (just coding will work, I can compile it manually each time I need via ssh) on my windows box and edit the code directly on the linux server, to save me from having to copy files back and forth for every little change. Simplified Example:
I change code in program via spiffy windows wysiwyg editor -> Program saves .c file over network [SSH Connection] to Linux Server
Hop over to SSH window, make, note any errors, rinse and repeat.
Think this could make coding easier than just using PICO via SSH, or am I trying to hard?
