Looking for compiler


I am looking for a command line C++ compiler for linux Is that what gcc is ?

RH9, Gnome

g++ is the C++ compiler; it's written by the same folks that do gcc.

g++ or c++

Do either of these come with RH9 or do i need to download from somewhere? thanks

It's a part of the gcc compiler package. If you have gcc, then yes, you should have it on your machine already. Type

which g++

at a command-line if you want to be sure.

Does this mean i dont have it at all?

/usr/bin/which: no g++ in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/Nick/bin:bin)

Yeah, it isn't installed. You should have GCC on the RH9 CDs though. Use the Package Manager, install the Development Tools.

looks like that...in any standard RH installation, the GCC and it's components shud come in the first CD. donno how you missed it.

I tried to install the development package from the RH9 cd`s but i got these dependecy issues

Krb5-libs = 1.2.7-8not found
openssl = 0.9.7a-2 not found

so it would not install
I downloaded them and tried to install them but they would not install either the rpm or the tar from command line.
Any reason they wont install? Thanks

Then start by installing those dependency packages first. BTW, check out if the command `c++' works or not. `g++' surely is the best C++ compiler but c++ will do the job. If you can't find c++ too, go for the dirty job of installing the rpms.
