Is it possible to click on a Google map? Also, how to find the distance bet. 2 points
Hi,
I'm not very well acquainted with Google maps, and trying to find out whether I SHOULD or not, so.... is it possible to click somewhere on a map, and have it return the latitude and longitude of that point?
Also, is it possible to give it 2 points and have it tell me the distance between them by ROAD, NOT a straight line joining the 2 points....? This type of thing has been done by Streetmap in the UK, I want to know whether Google will do it as well. I am in India, so the points would be in India.

I am in the US, and use Google maps every day. The data is remarkably detailed and generally accurate. That might not be the case in your part of the world.

I never had a need for lat/long so discovered this by trial-and-error.
1) Display the map of my neighborhood.
2) Right-click on my house location.
3) See a pop-up menu.
4) Click on What's here?
5) See 35.753112,-78.870081 in the Google search window.

Google asks for a travel start point (indicated by a mouse click) and end point (another mouse click). It then provides a suggested travel route, the distance by that route, and an estimated travel time.
The Google Maps user may alternatively specify a bicycle routing or pedestrian routing. Depending on the location of one-way streets and other anomalies, these three routes may be quite different.

Is there any API for this? What I'm aiming for is for a user to specify a location when they sign up to my site, (it's an e-commerce-ish site, and I need to know where to deliver the goods to), and I can then tell Google - "My warehouse is here, how long to the destination, and how do I get there?" - is this possible? I'm assuming there would be charges, since this way the users wouldn't see any of Google's own ads, but I guess I'll just have to accept that :}
