Hide and then reveal elements just using CSS

I have a bespoke XML file and I am playing around with the stylesheet to display the details. Because the file will get quite unwieldy I wanted to hide some elements and the reveal them on a hover. Whilst I can do this in Javascript for HTML files I can't workout how to do this with just styles. I wanted to avoid putting any display information in the XML file hence my reluctance to use Javascript (which is of course assuming that the XML file would let me use Javascript, something I have never tried).

I tried restricting the height of the element but the text just flowed off the bottom of the containing element into the next element which wasn't very helpful.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

This site is pretty much pure css. You just have to view the source.
