GTK input and timeout

How can I set up a function in GTK that waits for input given time. Like timeout() + getch() in NCurses.

not sure how you really want to be using this timeout, but you'd use the g_timeout_add function in glib to use a timeout http://www.gtk.org/tutorial/ch-timeouts.html
