Well, I guess you could say that I solved the problem. It turns out that the only "problem" was user error and bad interface design on the developer's part. While playing around with it, I noticed that I could type in some text boxes after all, but not others. To do a search, use the "search" text box in the left column. Before, I was trying to go to "search" (the one with the "monitor" and "stats" listed below it) and enter a search in the "current search" box. It's pretty bad interface design to display the current search in a text box (something reserved for the user to edit text) instead of simply writing it the way that "current search" is written.
