Hi,
I would like to use Kylix and/or Delphi to do some programming. However the one thing that I absolutely need is the ability to connect to a database. Probably MySQL. Now, I have tried the "Open Edition" of both of these and as far as I could tell they do not include any tools/controls for conecting to databases. My question is, does anyone know this is true and are there any open source tools I could get to allow this. No, it's not that I'm against paying for software, but the standard version of Delphi is $1000+ !and Kylix is $250. I'm not going to be doing anything commercially so the open edition would work....if only I could do database work.

sorry but borland built the language with it focused on databases. It is good for a frontend for that sort of thing and so that is why you can only really get it in the paid for version.
you may be lucky if you look on google though.
you could get the thing to write sql easily enough its just getting that from your prog to the database. You may be able to do this without their tools but it would need greater knowledge than I have (and i know little sql). It is possible to run command line commands from within a delphi/kylix program (well, you can in windows anyway).
sorry that is no help at all. Im afraid in this instance google will be your best chum
well instead of Mysql use Interbase or Firebird (free) and check out
Ibobjects (trustware) , which is every delphi programmers interbase connection dream.
