cannot open terminal on startup

hello,

I wanted to write the script which runs at startup and opens the terminal window the moment desktop screen appears(GNU linux).

I wrote
Quote:
gnome-terminal # in .bashrc
in .bashrc file. But nothing happened ?

How to achieve the purpose.

I don't think it's the way to do it. Assuming you're running gnome - go to preferences > Session > Startup (or something similar, sorry haven't used gnome for a while)

thanks for the quick response.

I deleted the command gnome-terminal from bashrc file and

then copied it to .profile file.

Then also no result.

yes , you are right. I've these options on the panel above. But I want the script to open the terminal on login not drag and drop or other tricks.

I read somewhere .profile is the file which gets executed on logging. I wrote the command in the .profile also but no changes. Nothing happened.
