The question does not have to be directly related to Linux and any language is fair game.

Analyzing .WAV files

I'm looking to build an audio comparison program - as for which language to write it in, it doesn't matter.

How do you analyze a WAV file frame by frame, and return the frequency level?

I'm looking to write a DSP sound analysis program for linux, because there doesn't seem to be anything half-decent. The best thing I can find (and runs flawlessly in Wine) is DADiSP.

What I want from this program is simply for it to analyze each frame of the WAV file, and return the value at that audio frame in plain text.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious to understand how a wav file can be analysed frame by frame, given a frame apply to video, and wav is a sound format.
