I need to enable the GUI

During the MEPIS installation, I think I told the installer by mistake to start in the CLI. How do I tell MEPIS to boot into the GUI?

I'm assuming that you've installed the packages required for the GUI to run...

I don't use mepis so I don't know if another X config tool is provided, but you can configure the GUI with one of the following; /usr/X11R6/bin/xorgconfig, /usr/X11R6/bin/xorgcfg or /usr/X11R6/bin/xorgsetup. Once you have it set up, you can configure your box to boot into the GUI.

Open /etc/inittab in a text editor and search for a line like the following:
Code:
id:3:initdefault:
Change it to run level 5 (I think mepis is similar to redhat rather than slackware which uses 4 for the GUI run level):
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
Hope that helps...

There is also a tab in the Mepis OS Center "Re-Install X" which may help.

See here http://www.mepislovers-wiki.org/inde..._Display_Setup

You can do so from the live cd.

if you boot into the live CD and log in, you can click on the MepisOS Center (also the Install me! icon). From there, on the left there should be an item for "reinstall grub" and some other options. dig around, its not in front of me, but when you see it you'll know. It basically rewrites the boot up part on your hard drive. Really, very easy, try it!
