How to build a module for my kernel? PCMCIA wireless support for cwc854

Hi There!

I'm quite new to Mepis but it seems to be very convincing to leave MS. I have only one problem with it.

I have a wireless cardbus (cwc 854 ) which has also Linux drivers (at www ralinktech com /drivers/Linux/RT2500-Linux-STA-1.4.6.0.tar.gz). There is also some readme with this package but even though I could not figure out how to "install" the card.

First of all I read the KERNEL-README and the readme in the Module directory of my drivers package. Then I downloaded the kernel source 2.6.11.12 and built the deb file mentioned in the KERNEL-README. (I also tried to configure it according to my needs, but I think that this is a bit off-topic here.) After I tried to build the Module but it wrote me an error that it can not find the necessary "so" file (or "s"?).

Could someone write me down the steps I should go through?
Which command to give in which directory and so on?
Do I need to configure my kernel in some special way?

I have an ASUS A2500D laptop with ATI Radeon and AMD Athlon proc 256RAM.

Thanks for your help!

Bye,
Viktor

I have the same problem, but got some intersting hints on a Dutch forum, check out:

sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/

http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

It still might not give a complete solution but hopefully it is of any help
