After the first response mentioned a bad "image" (usually meaning a bad "ISO download/burn") the poor b was later treated as if he had a problem with GRUB (ie on an already-installed distro). How does that help?
Since I have downloaded the new Manjaro 16.06 to try it out - and found much the same problem - I would like to get answers too. So I tried to find the Manjaro webpage/form to create an account to respond and seek help, but access seems non-existent.
[Although further advice in the thread was to "find another distro to use", later tips suggested use of "xdriver=vesa" as a kernel arg - but that doesn't work for me.]
Does Anyone know HOW to access that Forum (ie create an account) - or do I "avoid the distro" as a solution?
I had no issues with the sign up feature for the forum, what issue are you getting to setup your account?
As for 16.06, I am downloading the xfce version to see what gives but I will only be trying on VB so I may not run into the GPU issue that was mentioned. (will let you know)
I have downloaded the NEW iso release, 16.06.01, but the same result.
It boots to setup screen. I select option-1 with, or without, variations (and including "Safe Settings") whereupon it "boots" to a complete (and neat) desktop environment. After about 7 to 10 seconds it suddenly re-sets to a "Manjaro" login screen (?is that Slim?). The mouse can move, but displays mousetrails. The keyboard has no effect.
[I note that my graphics card is a SiS-6326, and appears to be problematic with many distros. I also note that most distros have a package called X11-driver-video-... (The suffix represents a driver for a graphics card. In my case it could be "sis" or "sismedia", or the like.) The package-list for Manjaro (as shown on DistroWatch) has no such packages, so might I assume (as asses tend to do) that Manjaro does things differently?]
Since Manjaro has been moving up the ratings on DistroWatch, and due to some peculiarities it has (eg kernel selection), I was keen to try this ARCH spin on my system. [Further eagerness stems from the fact that when I try to resolve problems with Linux(es), or learn Linux stuff, I find that 50% of the time its all on the excellent Arch forum. It's amazing!]
.
So, that means I have tried four Manjaro installs (15; 16; 16.06; 16.06.01) with four fails, so I won't try this again.
FYI: I am not in too much of a spin about this (pardon the pun) because I have fully-functioning:- Mageia-5(workhorse); Antix-15(racehorse); PuppyTahr-6(greyhound); gNewSense-4(a "Hurdler") - and a partially-sorted Korora-23, Slackel-6, Zorin-10. OpenMandriva-2014; Mint-17; MX-15; PCLinuxOS-2014 can also work on this rig. Most others have, either, failed to install or work on my PC system.
I think the x11 driver you are looking for is xf86-video-sis which is in the repos. I unfortunately have not really had any issues with a Manjaro install and have done so on several
laptops, pcs and virtual machines without issue. Maybe you could try your download in VB yourself and see if it functions correctly there? Not sure what this would tell you other than your iso
is working ok.
Maybe if you try the Manjaro forums you will have better luck
it's ancient, and it never had 100% working linux support (yes, even the default xf86-video-sis driver is slightly buggy).
your best bet is to install a distro "for old computers". probably debian stable will run ok.
manjaro uses a new kernel, nobody is interested in integrating compatibility with SiS graphics anymore.
