Manjaro won't boot

Hello, I'm running Manjaro 19.0.2 KDE Plasma on a Lenovo Ideapad 110 laptop. Everything was going fine, until I insalled the 469 updates which Manjaro prompted me to install. I got a black screen saying:

The screen locker is broken and unlocking is not possible anymore. In order to unlock switch to a virtual terminal(e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2),

loginctl unlock-session 2

Afterwards switch back to the running session(Ctrl+Alt+F1).

I managed to return to the desktop, following the instructions from the black screen. After that I tried to restart and shut down, but both function wouldn't work, so I forced shut down, by holding the power button. When I turned the laptop back on, Manjaro wouldn't boot after grub. I searched the forums, but didn't find a solution anywhere. I reinstalled Manjaro and now it works, but I haven't installed updates yet, because I fear the same will happen. Any ideas on why this might be happening?

How did you update? With pacman -Syu
Any errors in pacman.log?

How did you shutdown?
Code:
systemctl poweroff
What errors do you get?
Also what video hardware do you have, and what kernel module is loaded for it.
Code:
lspci -k

What errors is grub displaying?

Can you launch KDE without using it's display manager?
What does your ./xinitrc look like?

You may want to look at the arch wiki and forum.

I updated with 'Add or remove software installed on the system'. When I try to install Pacman log viewer, it prompts me to install 1.4GB of other stuff.

When I try to install Pacman log viewer
It's a plain text file at /var/log/pacman.log
Unless manjaro has moved it.

This is your display hardware and kernel module in use.

./xinitrc is also a plain text configuration file. The dot means hidden file.

This is the problem with installing a version of arch that does everything for you. You have no idea how it works.

A black screen after update. That can often be a video module change, or kernel. That is not uncommon on a rolling release.
You'll need to try and isolate it. Try downgrading the kernel and/or the last video module update. Look at pacman.log and see what was updated.

Pacman's package cache is at /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
The best thing that you can do now is to go to the arch wiki and do a little reading so that you understand the OS.

A rolling release might not be ideal for a new user. It works ok but there are always little problems. There have been quite a few black screen after update problems of late with Intel and AMD. As an experienced linux user, you solve them and move on.

Look at the arch forum and see if there have been any issues with your video hardware and how they were solved.

Here is what you need to know/understand to use arch.

I don't know what your graphical software thing is doing, but that is a partial update and will break your machine, maybe. Don't run pacman -Sy <package>. That updates pacman's database and then does not update everything. The next time you run pacman -S <package> you are installing a newer package from the new database on a machine that does not match it.

Open up a terminal and run
Code:
pacman -Syu
You'll need to be root or use sudo.

Then post back the with the results.

This thread can now be deleted, as I chose to install Ubuntu instead of Manjaro. Thank you for your help
