Unhappy XServer config file corrupted

I'm a newb with linux and recently I had a power failure and my computer was on under linux. When I restarted it, I couldn't start the XServer because the XServer config file was empty. I reconfigured it with xorgcfg and since then it works, but there's other problems.

Since I reconfigured it, I have no sound and i'm not able to go on the net. I ran ifconfig as root and I have an ip adress. The only program that's running good is Amarok, I have sound and I can listen to streamcast. If I try to run Firefox, it says that it can't connect to the website. The Network configuration tools of Mandriva 10.1 says that i'm not connected, but as I said I can listen to streamcast over the net with amarok.

If anybody can help it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
For your sound, did you try running 'alsaconf' as root ?
It should re-detect your sound card and you should be able to
have sound again. If it detects you card, run 'alsactl store' next.
Amarok works because it must use KDE's
arts sound system. You need to use ALSA, which is much better.

Since you use 10.1, what about the status of the little icon in KDE ?
There ought to be one in the taskbar, if there's an 'x' on it, then your
system isn't connected. Do you use dhcp, dial-up, to connect ?

hope it helps

I tried alsaconf and it didn't work, I went through the setup process and I still have no sound except for Amarok.

For my connection as I said I have an IP adress and I use a cable modem.

Here's a pick of my connection icon, it says that I'm not connected but I can see the bandwith go up and down when i'm listening to streamcast with the same program.
