I have been having problems with my window managers for the last few weeks. At first KDE just seemed a little slow and would crash a lot, so I switched to WindowMaker, which I liked a lot better.

Yesterday, the screen flickered and went blank. I had to reset, then it told me that I had errors on the hard-drive during boot up and asked if I wanted to fix them. I said yes, it went through its thing while trying to fix the errors, when it was done it booted up into console mode and ever since no window manager will open. When I type startx, the screen flickers a little and I'm back in console mode with no really informative error messages, it appears to exit just fine. When I use the kde command, I do get error messages. Does anyone know what is happening? I may end up reinstalling if I can't figure out what the problem is.

could you please post the error message(s) you are getting to help with troubleshooting. also, check in /var/log/xfree86.0.log for error &/or post that here, please.

otis
