I am trying to get a Linux OS working to consider converting from windows and have tried to do a dual boot system with 9.2 and Xp but have not succeded. So i am going to try and put a mandrake version on my old comp to see how i like.

i know it is an old system because it was built in 98 but here is the config.

-64MB 64Bit 4-clock CL=2 SDRAM Unbuffered Dimm

-Telepath For Windows With X2 Technology

-Intel Pentium II Motherboard

-Audio PCI Wavetable Sound Card

-STB 4MB AGP Video Card w/ Integ. DVD Support

-STB 4MB AGP Video Card w/ Integ. DVD Support

-IBM 8.4-GB IDE Hard Disk Drive

providing you have already clear hard drive space and xp pro,
or an already partitioned hard drive with xp home,
dual booting is easy

however,

manrake 9.2 should run on the box you listed
(mandrake should have a list of "known to work" hardware on their home site)

I've put mdk 9.2 on a P2 350 and it ran fine though very slowly (compared to the main athlon 1700 i use)

for the moment I am running mdk on a PII 233 (96mb) with 2 1.2gb hard drives, and it's doing fine!

just al little slow when in kde, but i mostly use it in runlevel 3.

So if you don't really need anything powerful to run, it'll do fine on that computer
