Whats a good Web Browser to use?

Hey guys, just isntalled Mandrake 9.2. The installation beleive it or not was actually easier, than 9.1 which I didn't even think was possible, and it loads just like nice clean looking windows Xp does. I decided to try, Window Maker instead of KDE. I LOVE IT! its so light and clean looking. I just wish I knew how to do some stuff with it, like make short cuts and such, But ill look that up myself, unless anyone has a link to make this simple for me.

I noticed obviously that Window maker doesn't use Konquerer, I really like Konquerer though, so if I cant use Konquerer (Im assuming I cant) what should I use instead? Right now, I did a urpmi mozilla to get mozilla in this thing, but thats the only one I could think of. Its working quite well. Just looks terribly ugly. So any suggestions on a good browser? Where to get it, and how to install it, would also be a plus. thanks guys.

I would reccomend using Mozilla Firebird, (not exactly the same as Mozilla, just same engine), since it is very lightweight and fast. If I didn't have that option, I would try Galeon or Opera. I have no idea if they are compatible with WindowMaker or not.

You should change the skin of your mozilla browser in the options. When you go to your options there will be a link to a website that has some different skins. I agree with you that the default mozilla look is boring. You can pick a much prettier one and even make it look like windows.

Also - not sure how Mandrake works, so this could be off - make sure you have an xft-enabled version if the fonts look lame. Between nice fonts and a nice skin, mozilla looks great. And it's the premier rendering engine that most every browser uses, so it's 'tied' for tops there. The only real issue is whether you want a suite of integrated web apps (or at least an excellent browser/mail combo) or whether you want smaller individual apps (that are larger in total).

I don't use - or even have - KDE or Window Maker, but you should be able to use Konqueror on Window Maker if you really want. At most I'd think it'd take a special command line option to tell it 'hey, you're running solo!' Check the man p-, er, documentation and see.

thanks guys. Ill try those. Firebird sounds like an idea. So does changing the look of Mozilla with skins and such... Looks a lil like Netscape 4.7 does it not? maybe even Netscape Gold Edition...

You should be able to use Konqueror in Window Maker. I launched it last night in Blackbox, so I know if it worked there, it should work using WindowMaker. Try by just opening up a terminal and typing: konqueror & and see if it launches.
But yeah, use Firebird if you want a smaller, fast browser....

I'm just echoing what has already been said, but Firebird is great. I fell in love with right away. It loads plugins with a breeze and has some cool skins. Quick and easy install...its just great. I tried it in Windows as well but didnt get the same joyous results. The downloader acted strange.

That's because Mozilla was made by the people who made Netscape. It no loger gets support from that company since AOL bought it, but continues on its own now. A lot of developers have worked on Netscape before, so it's not suprising it looks like Nestcape by default

Mozilla Firebird is fast, light, great. Tab browsing rules.

Also please give links a try. In console, links www.whatever.com to open site.

Hey, Firebird with xft enabled here. Mozilla is second choice for me. Also, I have run konqueror in almost every desktop and window manager but the trick is, you have to have kde installed because it is integrated into kde(no seperate download as far as I know). I am guessing that you wanted it for file manager and web browser but I will suggest endeavour2 or rox-filer for file managers incase you need a good one for windowmaker.
