Early versions of Linux had a world ikon to go on and off hook with a dial up modem. Using Mandrake 9.1 and 9.2 I can only find the connection through the mcc.
Is there a simple ikon to just make the connection and disconnect after you have the DUN (dial up network) working under the mcc?
Or is everyone on broadband now and don't care about those who still tie their telephone line with V modems.
Are you asking specifically about an icon, or a program? If you're after a program to dial out through your modem and connect to your ISP, then take a peek at kppp (part of the KDE Networking package - should be on your 3rd CD).
Should be on the CDs somewhere. Try opening a terminal and typing the following whereis kppp. If it doesn't say anything, try rpm -qa | grep -i kppp. If still no joy, then try installing it.
Yes, thanks got it. That's what I was looking for.
However, it doesn't list any pci's or modem I tried Com1 Tty0,
even though it isn,t actually on it. I can't figure out why if it's got usb's listed it has no pci selection.
I do not have a winmodem and external modems work fine on the com port. I just want to use the convenience of a pci version.
The pci chosen is AT Hayes compatable -it is ALi Corporation
SmartPCI561 56K Modem located on the bus at 0:14:0
Surely, there is a simple driver to connect the pci to dev/modem
Is there some way to make the pci slot connect to device modem as the interface should be the same as the back of the com chip 8 bit parallel AT command set?
