I am a bit confused about the names here. I know that Mandrakesoft and Conectiva merged into "Mandriva" but what is that new name? Is it the name of the company or the name of the distro? I wondered because I AFAIK the latest distro is called "Mandrakelinux 10.1". Will the distros have the Mandriva name or is it just the company behind the distros?
You could, really, have found this out pretty easily.
Well I could, and actually I did. I downloaded the iso from their site so I have visited it. But when I downloaded the newest (at least to my knowledge) it said Mandrakelinux and I wondered if the name of the distro, too, would change to Mandriva.
The latest is Mandriva 2005 LE (Limited Edition) - it's the one that comes between Mandrake 10.x and Mandriva 1.x (or whatever their numbering system will be). AFAIK, it's mostly bug fixes. But I'm sure a Mandriva user will correct me on that.
Mandriva 2005LE is what was supposed to be Mandrake 10.2, so you will find a lot of references to Mandrake instead of Mandriva in the documentation and software packages. I think the next release will be 2006 and not Mandriva 1.x because they will be releasing less frequently and each release will be tagged with a year of release and maybe a minor version number where several releases occur in the same year.
