Look in /boot/grub/menu.lst (or possibly grub.conf if that's what Mandriva uses). In the kernel line you may see "splash=silent". Change that to "splash=verbose".

If you prefer a gui to do that you can use the MCC (configure your computer), go to boot, boot look and feel.

Check the box near the top, select silent, text only or verbose.

I use verbose with a graphic background.

thanks to both of you

i feel completely fine without a gui, my first distro ever was slackware so i didnt really have a choice but to learn things the unix way (the fun way!)..

a bit off topic, but hey, it's my thread:

unfortunately, lately im not getting too much time to 'play' with linux, so i need my OS to do everything pretty much by itself (frankly that's the only reason im using mandriva) .. i have to say im still not 100% used to that mandriva (or even fedora) way of working, slackware was so simple! the "do what you want (and do it yourself), i wont be getting in your way"

love that
just a random thought

thanks
wet
