USB Flash Drive


i got one of thoes small usb flasm memory things for christmas..

anyhow when i use it it works and whatnot but as with anything your not suposed to "remove" it whille the led light is on... well mine stay on all the time.. so is the a way to "unmount" it so that i can safely remove it...


if it maters its a sandisk cruzer 512MB Titanium

maybe the light on your just means it is powered up, not necessarily accessing the memory. Have you looked to see what the light is an indicator of?

i am sure that the light means that it is accesing it...

May be this could help you out:

1.login as root, i.e. , su
2.With mount command find where your USB disk (/dev/sda1 usually) is mounted, generally at /mnt/USB_DISK
3.Ensure that `pwd` is not the USB drive as well as its not being accessed in any other window
4.umount /mnt/USB_DISK

if you dont get any error message, that's it now you can safely remove that stuff.

Mine flashes when I plug it in, even when I am not accessing it. When I transfer data, the flashing is a bit faster.

yeay mine lights up all the time, then flashes when i am transfering something...

anyhow i tried what nitinatindore said to do.. and i didnt get any messages.. so i assume it unmounted, the light didnt go out though.. but i assumed it worked...

unmounting the USB

Just right click on the desktop icon, and tell it to unmount.

WOW that works AWSOME... i had thoes icons turned off.. so i went into setup desktop and just turned on, connected PDA, connected cellphone, and mounted partition.. and sure enought it shoews up when i plug it in...
