I continue to get this error when trying to install:
[root@Xi0n MozillaFirebird]# urpmi kpackage
unable to take medium "main" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.main] exists
no package named kpackage
[root@Xi0n MozillaFirebird]#
Yep. Do a urp,i.removemedia main
then go out to the plf: http://plf.zarb.org/
and set up a new source. The ftp site you selected is etheir down or overloaded.
No. When you do a urpmi.addmedia it downloads a list of files it has on the ftp site not the files themselves. When you do a urpmi (file name) it looks thru those list for the file and what ftp site its on then it looks at the rpms itself and see what the dependency are. Then goes to that ftp server downloads it and then installs
Don'l take the plf.zarb.org EasyUrpmi page at face value. Just paste the different addresses into the browser until I find a site that responds fairly quickly. Faster than letting them time out or just work painfully slow. If I get a zappy site, I use that one. You can also just copy and paste into the Mandrake GUI for the RPM sources.
Oh by the way, I still haven't found a good "contrib" location. the Installer always squawks at me about the list file being invalid. Anybody know if that's just a typical thing?
I get the same thing. I haven't been able to up date my sys in weeks, urpmi errors out on any server i use, even the recomended oned from MandrakeClub. I'm lost!
You don't need the contrib to do updates. I also found out that when I needed a file it couldn't find it on the souces I had defined. I then added a contrib to my system(Didn't have one until then) did a urpmi (file name) it found the file on the contrib ftp server downloaded it installed it and then complained that the contrib ftp server had an invalid hdlist. So are the warning message real or not.
This is a message for sick-o-windoze. What do you mean by
"Don'l take the plf.zarb.org EasyUrpmi page at face value" if you know what your doing this site works fantastic. Set up more than a singe source for each of the source types( main, plf, update, and contrib) The main source is only if you don't have the cd's or cd images. When you do a urpmi (file name) it will go from one souce to the next until it finds what it looking for. You can also do a urpmi ftppath to and filename) urpmi will download it and install it for you. What you said to do will open you for a ton of download of dependences. This is what urpmi is good for it does it for you. Check for the faster ftp server if you want and add them in that order to your urpmi database to get faster urpmi downloads. I rarely and I mean rarely download a file manually anymore.
