URPMI install problems

Both the GUI and CLI, whenever I try to install perl (apache2 or just perl) it hangs. The CLI just sits there and when trying to check the box in the GUI control center I just get the hourglass and nothing happens. I have updated the media and installed other packages without problems.

Any suggestions?

Try temporarily disabling each source in turn in the GUI "Software Media Manager" to see which source is to blame.

You may have to make sure that you are not utilizing the hdlist.xx.cz provided by that particular souce as it may be corrupt which can cause URPMI to hang even before it hits the repository.

By default you use the remote repositories hdlist.cz

If you EDIT each of the entries for the remotes using the Software Media Manager Gui, all you need to do is edit the location of the hdlistxxx.cz file.

Make it blank.

Then after you've saved hit UPDATE and select the same repositories.

Note: this can be time consuming as your system has to scan EACH rpm on the remote repository.

So much so that I end up downloading the entire i586/RPM tree and doing this locally. which is much quicker.
