Question Upgrade 2006 to 2007?

Does anyone have any experience upgrading 2006 to 2007? Is upgrade possible, or does it need a clean install? If 2006 is running, can I expect 2007 to run on the same box? (IBM T21 laptop with Linksys wifi card and ndsiwrapper)

paynejp - yes you can do an upgrade with the same disks, but i would highly reomend doing a fresh install.

I tried both, the upgrade worked, but there are some little qurks with. it didn't update the menu correctly, but stll everything worked the correct way.

in you reinstall, just back up you home dir, i find it best o my home dir on a seperate partitiojn so i can install without worrying about loosing any settings/data.

Yes, BUT

Expect some nagging behavior. Since upgrade, KDE has lost "shutdown" and "restart" options, the system doesn't halt correctly anymore (well, it goes down, but doesn't switch off power). Dunno why ...

As any other upgrade it will mess up lots of things. Only do it if you have good reasons to.

reposted here since thread spliting did not include my post

yes, did also a full install on spare partition to compare
- kdm works strangely (some functionallity missing compared to full install 2007)
- xorg a bit confused
- ndiswrapper needed -e then -i
wlan0 settings lost despite cfg still there, add to retype SSID and wep key from /etc/sysconfig
otherwise not noticed anything else, but did not try hard

I did this upgrade. It works OK.
However I had VERY nasty problems due to the upgrade process being blind to (or unable to cope with) some packages I had installed from Thac and Zé's repository.

If all your system (not applications) packages come from official Mandriva repositories, all should be fine.

Yves.
