security level

When I installed Mandrake 10, I set the security level to "higher." The description said something about "being possible to be used as a server," which I want. I would like to know how to use SSH without lowering the security level. Also, I would like to know if there are any other "hurdles" that comes with this security level. I already know you cannot log in as root directly.
