Question Purchase mdk Powerpack 10?

I have downloaded and installed mdk 10 official and i am having a few problems with it. I was wondering if anyone recommends the powerpack over the download version, and if they think the powerpack will resolve some of the problemsI am having with the download version. What are the real advantages over the powerpack and the free download? I purchased powerpack 9.1 not too long ago, so i still have the commercial rpms that were included with that package; is there better hardware/technical support with the powerpack or is it basically a matter of how many rpms do you want to have at your fingertips?

The reason I am wondering how different the two are is because like I said before, I purchased the 9.1 powerpack and when I was using that I had no problems. With the download version of 10 i am having some major sound problems (i posted another thread for that, but right now i dotn know if im gonna get anywhere with resolving the problem). When I had 9.1 installed there was no problem with the sound at all.

Could the powerpack resolve my sound problems, or is it something more related to the actual version itself?

Thanks for any feedback!

Oh, and before this post gets flooded with the "you should puchase it anyways to support the distro" dont worry I know I should purchase it, and I do plan on purchasing it. But if its not going to resolve my problems with the download version I may just look into purchasing a different distro.

nope. powerpack just has more rpms / docs / etc... if anything you will get the kernel source which you can compile for your hardware, which could help. what kind pf probs you got with your sound?

basically, my problem is that linux recognizes knows that my card is there, but i cant get it to work when i boot. i get an aRts error saying that it can't locate the folder with my sound card drivers. . .

i have another posting on it here:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=178800

but now that i know that powerpack is just an rpm advantage ill stick with the download version for now.

if you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it! im using mdk 10 official, kernel 2.6.3-7, and its a SB Live! card.

Thanks for replyin equinox!
