Question Problems with Mandrake 10???

Hey,

I want to give Mandrake a go again...I haven't used it in a long time and it looks like it has improved a lot in that time. However, I just said to myself...self, tonight you should install Mandrake 10. Then I look on this form and I see some threads that concern me. Is there or isn't there a problem with installing Mandrake 10 on a system that has WinXP on it? You see my wife uses XP and it would be really bad if tomorrow morning she woke up to find XP not booting and me having hung myself in the computer room.

Also, has there been any other problems with it? Just wondering before I install it.

I also want to ask if cd 4 is a necessity? I borrowed the disks from a friend and he only gave me 3 cds...can I still install with only 3?

Thanks for the help

I have installed mandrake 10 several times along with xp on the same hard drive and had no booting problems.
You don't need cd 4 to install, you should be fine with those 3 cd's. Although, I'd recommend waiting until may and getting the final version powerpack.

yes you can install from 3

i don't know why some have had problems with booting XP, I didn't,

maybe if you installed mandrake and put the boot part on a floppy then you can still get into XP

might be the safest way to proceed

Thanks.

It made no sense to me that it would not work with XP....since being able to work along side windows has been one of the biggest boosts to Linux from the beginning, but I always like to get some feedback before I move on.

That is a good idea, but I can't wait...I am itching to get home from work and install right now .

I don't find it very difficult to re-install anyway. I just separate my home directory from my root directory and I don't lose any important stuff each time I re-install. So when the final version comes out I can easily install that one as well. It is a good way to partition IMHO.

I learned it from a guy at work who installs new *nix systems a couple of times a year....and different flavours of linux. Makes for an easy upgrade...and easy to revert back and still keep your preferences.

Thanks for the help.
