Problems with KDE 3.5

Hi,
I've just inatalled kde 3.5 and it looks nice, no hudge imrovments that I have seen yet.

But.....

I seem to have lost some things.

1) I can't set up the system to auto log in a user on boot.
2) I have no shut down options.
3) missing options to make kicker transparent.
4) missing options to change the background of icons on the kicker.

The first to are set up according to the boot options but they do not work.

Any one else had this problem or know how to fix it?

Thansk.

Ok so...

1) Thats a really bad idea
2) What login manager are you using? Exactly what you mean by shutdown options, as in the dialog to close session, reboot or shutdown... or something else?
3) Are you certain its not at KControl->Desktop->Panels?
4) Same as above

Why is number 1 a bad idea? If it's because anyone can yurn on the computer and use it, thats not a problem. It's a home computer and I only live with my girlfried aso we both use the same user, it works well for us like this... except when i screw things yop like now. But if there is another reason I would like to hear it so I can decide if its a proble for me.

Not sure what login manager I use, its the default with Mandrake 2006, sorry mandriva. All it says is AutoLoggin.

On the main menu I don't have switch user, I have the logout button, but when I press it I get the grayed out screen, wit the little picture of the dragon (does he have a name?) in the moon. I used to have 3 options end session, reboot and shutdown, now I only have end session that take me back to the login screen, with no options of other desktop env's or any shutdown reboot or console options. I have to use a terminal and so shutdoen -h now and supply the root password.

i have no desktop option as you surgested, in lookNFeel I have Background, Behavior, Colors, Fonts, Icons, Launch feedback, Multiple desktops, Panels, Screen saves, splash screen, style, System Notification, Taskbar, Windows Deco. The options are not under any of these.

To install KDE 3.5 I followed instructions I found:
rpm -e --nodeps `rpm -qa | grep -i kde | grep 3.4'
rpm -e --nodeps kdebase-kdm-config-file
urpmi.addmedia SoS-KDE http://seerofsouls.com/KDE-3.5 with hdlist.cz

urpmi kdebase
urpmi kdeutils kdeaddons
urpmi kdebase-kdm-config-file

Does that look right or is this the problem?

Thansk.

Just as an aside I have had a problem on upgrading ¨Mandriva 2006¨-see thread of the same name this forum.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...splay.php?f=30

My Start new session button also disappeared..seems to be a bug in there somewhere.A full install saving my user partition fixed it.
