Problem installing Mandrake 10(.1) on laptop

Hello masters,

I have tried installing MDK 10/10.1 on my new eMachines laptop with and AMD64 3000+ processor. I burned the ISO's and the CD's are fine. When I boot, it seems to do some little detection but when it's supposed to load the actual stuff it just freezes and remains in that black screen that says "Welcome to Mandrake 10.1" or something like that. I'm quite a noob so your help is much appreciated.
(p.s. MDK 9.1 installs fine!!!)

if you mean everything is OK but when the box has started up on the end it hangs at that black (login gui) screen without anything else and you cant do anything else:

I suggest reinstalling your linux box from dvd but select UPGRADE it's faster and at the end you can select your hardware and thus your videocard and config the settings at the OPTIONS button, there you can opt to start with a login gui maybe better not to select it if your box keeps hanging,
then the box will startup and you can enter the proper command to start something like kde or startx

Good Afternoon,

I just bought an acer AMD 64 3000+ laptop and I installed 10.1 on it yesterday. I was able to install it okay on the 1st try so if you can't get it working let me know and I will try to help you. I'm by no means an expert but I might be able to help you out.

My installation was modified to allow a dual boot back over to windows. Were you trying to dual boot or did you want Linux only...actually it sounds like it wouldn't let you get that far. So anyway good luck.

Mandrake 10.1 chokes when it can't completely figure out the video. I couldn't install it on a Thinkpad for that reason, but could install SuSE 9.2. I would suggest reinstalling as well.

To fix this type in "linux acpi=off" then that should solve all your problems. Thanks guys.
