i have the mandrake 9.2 with kernel 2.4.22-10, i'am happy with it , but i would like to upgrade to the 2.4.28.
i would like to install the kernel source.rpm and start patching :
- from where do i start? 2.2.23 or what?
- is it better to upgrade first to the 2.4.22-37 via mandrake rpm and then start patching or it's no difference?
and last, can i disable features in the kernel to make it smaller and faster??
thanks guys
what u can do is get ur 2.4 kernel
patch it
and then load the config file of ur present kernel in ur new kernel( mostly u can find it in /boot )
now u have that configuration of ur kernel that works for u
change the way u like but i advice u to go slowly so that if u do not get a working kernel then u should be able to revert back
