Sorry to post a thread about an issue that seems to come up often, but I am a complete newb and would really appreciate a slight nudge in the right direction here.
My video card is a 128mb Leadtek 6600GT.
I installed Mandriva 2006 on a 20gb partition on my pc so that it can dual boot with windows. The only major problem I had was that I could not really find a video card driver that worked when I hit the "Test" button. I tried all the Nvidia drivers at either 1024X768 and 1280X1024, tried all the Winfast ones as well and also tried quite a few of the Xorg ones. Now, when I boot up and load Linux, the screen looks the same way it did for the failed "test" screens, like a psychedelic blue screen.
I read some instructions on how to install drivers ( ww.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-9746.html)... but will I be able to install without a GUI? Also, I have not configured an internet configuration for it yet...
Hopefully its an easy fix?
e: what other information would be useful?

The drivers are meant to be installed whilst not running a GUI. Take a look at this article which may help you out. Its old, but still useful. Where the article mentions /etc/X11/XF86Config, replace that with /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Also make sure you have the kernel source installed (using the software installation tools) before attempting to install the drivers.
Thanks for the replies. I tried the VESA driver and rebooted the computer. For some reason, the first time I reboot after I try a new video card driver it does not work, but I found that if I rebooted again, the GUI boots up and everything is fine. Now just to get my internet to work...
