No CDROM Device Found Mandrake 10

First of all sorry for my bad english, i'm still learning and i'll hope you'll understand.

When i try to install mandrake 10 from CD it keeps saying "No CDRom Device Found". I tried all the settings in my BIOS like the famous "Onboot ATA Device" or something like that. Tried everything that had to do with IDE but i can't seem to figure it out. Here are my specs :

- Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe Mainboard
- Asus 6600GT Extreme SLi 2x
- AMD 4000+ 64Bit
- 1GB Corsair XML 2-2-2-5
- NEC 1300 DVDR

Also tried a CDRom ( Brandless ) and a LG. I've done my search by trying to google and searching this forum. I know it irritating when asking questions that can be found on google, but i really can't figure this on out. I know bout the setting in your BIOS like "Onboot SATA Something" but the A8N doesn't have that option. Thanks in advance.

If you have access to another computer try making a bootable floppy (using the first cd) and use that to install your linux :-)

I know i can install it using a disk and do a FTP install. But i wanted to know what causes the problem and how i can fix it. Doesn't it detect the IDE controller on the mainboard ?

It sounds like the kernel is unable to detect the IDE device to which the CD-ROM is hooked to.

This can happen if your CD-ROM is plugged into an auxiliary IDE port integrated into the motherboard itself.

Frequently these are provided to permit you to use software/hardware integrated raid arrangements.

However as the first stage boot kernel has no drivers for these devices, it fails to see the CD-ROM upon bootup and the installation stops with an error.

You may want to try moving the CD-ROM to the "PRIMARY/SECONDARY" IDE adapter instead of any Promise or Adaptec IDE interface that your motherboard may provide.
