Monitor Hsync and Vsync wont take

I have an LCD monitor that is capable of a resolution of 1280x1024 but when I edit the XF86config file it doesn't want to "take" the settings I put in. I tried using gtf 1280 1024 75 to write a modeline and I entered the Hsync as 80 and the Vsync as 75 but when I startx the screen shows "Mode not supported: H 46.4 V 86.8. Why on earth is it setting 46.4 86.8 when I specifcally entered 80 75?

Help: annoying!

Well this is the Mandrake forum and your using Slackware so I would repost there. As for the problem I have no clue. Have you checked out the XOrg site?

Actually, I was using Slackware but have gone back to Mandrake. I am also using Xfree not Xorg.

Here's my XF86config-4 file:
