Unhappy Midenight commander on mandrake 9.2?

I have problems compiling MC 4.6.0 on mdk 9.2. Did anyone succeed?

I would like to file runner but I cant figure out hove to copy/move files to non writable dirs. I use chmod and still I cant move or copy a file/dir. I still need to do this in a shell.

I want one program to do this stuff and without shell.

any ideas?

Hi,

First, if you want to copy/move files/directories in a shell outside of your home directory, chances are that you will need to be root. If you are root , then you will have NO problem in doing so. However, you have to be careful about this, since being root means you could also destroy important files/directories too...

If the actions you want to perform is for specific files/directories, and always the same ones, you could then change the files'/directories' permissions with the chmod command. But then again, if you do not own these files/directories, you will need to be root... Back to square one! Please not that when copying/moving files/directories, you need to set the permissions (chmod a+x <dir name>) of the target directory.

Finally, about the mc command, as far as I am concerned, it is already on the Mdk 9.2's ISOs, you do not need to compile anything here (unless you would want to install an updated version...). Just start the Install Software tool and do a search with the mc keyword. If it is not there for you, then it is because I probably inserted another urpmi media link in my own list...

Hope this help!
