MDK 9.2 stalling transferring files from samba share
I recently installed a clean copy of 9.2 multiple times and have had problems each time with file transfers from mounted samba shares stalling.
While copying files from a Windows share to the 9.2 box, an error msg pops up that says the file is no longer readable, (or something like that). The Windows server is still running, etc, I don't believe it has a problem because hundreds of Windows clients are constantly connected to it and I used to copy files to and from it when I was running 9.1.
When I clear the message, Konqueror then locks up. If I kill Konqueror I can reopen it, (but it takes longer to open then before the samba stall), and I can try my copying again, but it will inevitably stall. I haven't noticed any other network problems and I didn't have this problem with 9.1.
Has anyone else has experienced this? Any ideas? (a search of the forums didn't turn anything up for this type of problem). Thanks.
I am having a similar problem. I can not get the shares to mount. I can access directly with smbclient and move files back and forth using that, but can't get the shares to mount useing diskdrake. I will be interested to see what others have to say.

on your desktop, if you make an shortcut with the 1)name of the server or the 2) ip of the server and share (\\server\share, \\192.168.1.1\share), you shouldn't have much of a problem.
also, try in konqueror :
smb:\\server\share, and or
lan:\\server\share
When I'm going from Mandrake 9.2 into windows to get files konqueror does appear to freeze and there is a message saying 'stalled' but if I wait, it works. It is slow.
I'm getting similar results between win2003 server and Mandrake 9.2...I thought it was my config but tests seem like everything's solid...I don't have any problems transferring small files but when I start moving big stuff like 2 - 50 GB I come back to a stalled transfer window with NO progress...I'm also getting read errors on certain files in a seemingly random pattern...Both these issues pose a bit of a problem since I have 1.5 terrabytes of SGI files to transfer to the migrate to my new linux server...

you might want to try Samba 3.0. I haven't used it but I hear its extrememly fast and beats 2003 in speed and stability. Also, maybe there are some window side things that were missing here, i can't help much there, I onl go win/linux to linux. Never lin>win.
I just started having a similar problem on Slackware 9.1
During the setup of the machine i removed the samba 2.2.8 and compiled samba3.0.1 from source. When I try to copy a file over, 99.9% of the time the transfer window flashes a "stalled" and the transfer stops. It always happens right at the end of a file. The main thing i noticed for my situation though is it is I dont believe its attributed to samba. For when downloading from the internet i end up with a stalled message on the transfer window right at the end of the file.
I was thinking maybe i was having hard drive problems but after a little testing I dont think thats the case.
ok just a note to add, i think it has something to do with the K environment. I'm curious if anyone here who was having problems transfering files tried doing it using smbclient from a prompt. No troubles whatsoever here. I contribute to some obscure KDE error for now until i look into it some more. Any thoughts?
i've had the same exact problem when i'm trying to copy something from my linux box to my win2k box, which most of the time i'm doing from the win2k box. i've had that problem in Mandrake, Slackware, KDE, and fluxbox. no clue why though.
