Mandriva v4l problem

When Mandriva boots, I cannot watch TV using xawtv (or anything else).
If I initiate xawtv from a console it tells me there are too many symbolic links.
Looking at /dev/v4l/ - video0 points to /dev/video0 - and /dev/video0 looks at /dev/v4l/video0 !
If I change either of these symlinks to a charcter device, xawtv works OK.
BUT, the next time Mandrive boots, it has rewritten both video0's as links pointing to each other.

How do I overcome this problem??
