Mandriva 2009.1 One: CD boot freezes up

I've already checked out a thread about a similar problem, but the answers seemed to center around fixing things from a CLI. The problem is that it gets to a certain point and stops. The screen goes black and the keyboard is unresponsive. The Scroll lock and Caps lock leds start to flash. Nothing from the keyboard does anything and my only option seems to be to do a hard poweroff.

My CD is ok because I've also used it to install on my server (where I am typing this), and within VirtualBox on my Vista based laptop.

The computer hardware is ok because I currently have Fedora 10 on it. I would like to put Mandriva on it and have all of my systems use the same OS.

CPU is AMD Sempron 2600+. It has 1G of memory. Mobo is a Biostar.

I've tried all of the boot options I can find. The last line displayed in the bootup sequence is "Starting the Ahavi Daemon"

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can boot this up? And what is the probability that I could get a successful disk install?

Thanks in advance.

Keyboard lights flashing is a kernel panic. You may try with some other boot options such as turning on/off acpi.

Thanks corbintechboy. When I turned off ACPI from the boot menu, most of the symptoms were the same, like the black screen, etc., but did not have the kernel panic. So I was able to switch to TTY2 and log on.

I played around with the X settings and ended up changing the driver from nvidia to nv. After that the graphic display worked and I was able to install.

Now I just need to figure out how to get the nvidia drivers to work so I can use some of the features I am used to, like dual head, etc. If I get messed up there I will probably be back.
