Originally posted by TigerLinux in SUSE , whenever i pop in a CD, it will automount and prompt me to open it or not, but this is not the case in fedora, i have to mount it with ISO9600 file type. Very tedious.
Suse detects what type of disc it is using Suse Plugger, if its a data disc its automounted and a pop up appears which suggests an app you can use to access the discs contents. If its an audio disc its not mounted, a pop up appears that suggests an app that you can use to play the cd. To confirm what I have just said, load an audio only cd and then try to browse it, it shouldn't work.
Fedora Core 4 has some automounting features. Using GNOME, it shows on the desktop when a disc has been inserted, but doesn't suggest what app to use to access it.
okay. i have a question for everyone then... if we use the trees to get the distro, how do we download the entire tree properly? just copy/paste the entire root dir to an empty folder? or is there some other specific method that needs to be done to handle it? some sort of tutorial on downloading trees would be nice if someone would care to do it.. thanks
you download the boot.iso from a mirror, and you run that , and perform a network install from your preferred mirror. I personally use gulus.usherbrooke.ca because I'm in canada, but you could choose the closest mirror to yourself.
then you would follow the instructions in the network install boot disk and it will ask you if you want to do a network install, ftp install or http install, among others. So you choose the option which is appropriate, I would choose http install, because gulus is a http server. then it will ask for the server like so:
gulus.usherbrooke.ca
and below it, it would ask for the directory that the install tree is located.
/pub/distro/Mandrakelinux/official/2006.0/i586/
or similar, it all depends on the mirror you choose.
Then you hit ok and you'll be on your way! Just to let you know, net installs take much longer to complete, so make sure you have about 2-3 hours to dedicate to it.

You could download it ike this then either share the directory using NFS (from another machine) or put it on another partition and do a hard drive install. You might find this more reliable than doing an FTP install directly.
it is not uncommon for a person to use a few Distros,
after all, mandriva is not a bad choice, is it ?
I just look forward to own a copy of mandriva 2006.

Yes but why do you have to keep posting the same question all the time in this thread? We've already answered your question several times - Mandriva2006 will be available to the public soon judging by the delay they've had with past releases. I don't know the exact date but check the Mandriva website (www.mandrivalinux.com) because it will obviously be announced first there.
